Our Labor and Employment Law Practice runs the gamut from preventive labor relations to complex federal court litigation. Firm attorneys have extensive experience nationwide in a number of highly sensitive and well-publicized cases in the areas of traditional labor law, wage and hour law, employment discrimination under federal and state statutes, substance abuse law, construction claims, arbitration and litigation, occupational safety and health law, wrongful discharge, and administrative law.

In the Substance Abuse Law area our firm handles more substance abuse, drug and alcohol, or other personal or employee related problems that affect work performance, than any other firm in the country.  Firm attorneys have written numerous substance abuse policies including setting the standards in various industries such as construction, textiles, chemical manufacturing and service industries. The firm’s founder, Robert Thompson, Jr., is one of the foremost experts in the country on Substance Abuse Law having written the book, “Substance Abuse and Employee Rehabilitation”, as well as numerous articles on the subject.  He has lectured extensively throughout the country and internationally on substance abuse problems, law, procedure and proper handling of substance abuse issues in the workplace.

Mr. Thompson was Chairman of the South Carolina Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse where he oversaw the state agency providing substance abuse services to the population of South Carolina, and he was appointed by President George H.W. Bush to the President’s Commission on Model State Drug Laws where he was Chairman of the Drug Free Families, Schools and Workplaces Committee and drafted all the model legislation which has been adopted in many states particularly regarding families, schools and workplaces. Mr. Thompson was involved in drafting the State of Georgia’s Workers’ Compensation Drug Free Workplace Premium Credit Act and has advised employers throughout the state of Georgia on that Drug-Free Workplace legislation for many years.

Our Corporate and Business Practice deals with the myriad of corporate entities as well as documentation, agreements, mergers, acquisitions, corporate compliance, and various modes of dispute resolution.  We also have sub-specialties in areas such as administrative law, international business, employee benefits, construction law, health law, and federal and state legislative and regulatory matters.Our litigation practice handles cases in state and federal courts, as well as administrative agencies, throughout the country and frequently in other countries with local counsel.

Two particular sub-specialties where we represent a large number of clients include our Sports and Entertainment Practice and our Foreclosure Defense Practice.  In the Sports and Entertainment area we have represented numerous athletes on contract negotiations, labor relations matters, endorsement agents, and business dispute and litigation.  Similarly, we represent Entertainers to protect their names, reputations, endorsements, branding, intellectual property, labeling, contracts, negotiations, and dispute resolution.  We work hard to remove legal impediments, so our clients can focus on their creative abilities and are free to perform at the highest potentials.
